Chinese Invasion of Taiwan as Early as 2025?

It’s Thursday, December 12th, and today we’re diving into the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China, rare earth mineral shortages, and what these developments mean for investors. Last week, the Biden administration further tightened restrictions on China’s access to advanced chips, which led to a strong reaction—China has blocked exports of key rare earth minerals like gallium, germanium, and antimony to the U.S. These materials are vital for both civilian and military applications, creating significant challenges for U.S. industries. Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise over Taiwan. China recently staged its largest naval war games yet, sending 100 ships into the South China Sea as a show of force. With predictions of a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan as early as 2025, this situation is shaping up to be one of the first major foreign policy challenges for the incoming Trump administration. Xi Jinping sees Taiwan as central to erasing China’s “century of humiliation,” making this conflict a matter of national pride and strategy for Beijing. The U.S. needs to secure its supply of rare earth minerals quickly.
