Today, I want to draw a parallel between hurricane season and the looming debt crisis in the U.S. Many of us have felt the sting of rising home insurance premiums recently, and with hurricanes like Helene and Milton hitting hard, many homeowners are left underinsured and vulnerable. Insurance companies have made policies more affordable, but at a cost—many have gutted their coverage. This situation is a stark reminder of our national debt crisis. While we often assume that the government will step in during disasters, our growing debt limits its ability to do so. If the U.S. can't issue more debt to cover these emergencies, we could see inflation skyrocketing, which would affect everyone, even those who have prepared well. As we navigate this hurricane season, it’s essential to understand the consequences of our national debt. Without the ability to borrow, the government might resort to printing more money, leading to inflation and potential social instability. This is a critical moment for all of us, as historical patterns suggest that economic turmoil can breed unrest.
