Like many Americans, I was stunned by the news of the Trump assassination attempt this weekend.
I found myself remembering the story of Bobby Kennedy in 1968…
People say that we are as divided today as we were in the 1960s. I disagree with that.

It’s amazing to me how divided we are today as a country…
In the ‘60s they were sending 1,000 bodies a month home in body bags. The divisions were over war.
Today, we’re told unemployment is below 5%…
The stock market’s at an all-time high…
AI is going to change the world…
And we don’t have body bags coming home.
It’s really incredible how divided we are in an otherwise good situation.
That’s very unsettling to me. And it speaks to something deeper.
Divisions are a symptom of a deeper problem.

So, what are the root causes of this foundational problem now?
A lot of it can be traced back to education in this country.
For the past 25-30 years kids have not been taught love for America…
When I was a kid, love for America was in the air.
Kids now are taught to look at America in a victim/perpetrator light.
A whole generation of kids is growing up learning America is a terrible place and we gotta toss everything out.
That is so dangerous for this country.
I’ve talked to these kids, and even adults who see things this way.
I try to understand where they’re coming from. But no matter what, they don’t know how to see the good America has done.
We enshrined in the Declaration of Independence that all people are created equal…
You know, that is the first time in human history that that has ever been done.
Are we perfect? Of course not, but that is our North Star.
Even if we take two steps forward, one step back…
These generations don’t see that we have lifted billions of people out of poverty around the world under the umbrella of security that we provide.
When Trump talks about Make America Great again, I believe he’s really talking about fighting this cultural war, or “make Americans realize that America is great, again.”
Love him or hate him…
The Trump decision has to be made by the American people on November 5th – not by a single assassin.
The culture war is just one of the issues threatening America right now…
There are five much bigger ones. These five have the potential to wipe out half of every American’s net worth, and make others unfathomably wealthy.
