3 Stocks Just Got Big Upgrades - 5/6

Analysts at Needham Just Boosted Their Price Target on These Two Stocks

When Wall Street analysts raise their price targets or ratings, it often signals confidence in a stock’s future prospects. While no analyst has a perfect track record, these updates can offer valuable insights—especially when they're based on earnings momentum, favorable industry tailwinds, or bullish sentiment following discussions with company management.

Recently, analysts at Needham issued new price targets and buy ratings on three notable stocks—Boston Scientific, Neurocrine Biosciences, and Robinhood—and the reasons behind their optimism are worth a closer look. Let’s break down what’s driving these upgrades.

    Company: Boston Scientific (SYM: BSX)
    New Price Target: $113

Boston Scientific, a global medical technology leader, received a major vote of confidence from Needham analysts, who upgraded the stock to a Buy with a price target of $113, representing meaningful upside from current levels.

The primary reason? Needham believes that competition in the field of pulsed field ablation—a next-gen approach used in treating atrial fibrillation—is not as fierce as initially feared. The firm pointed to FARAPULSE, Boston Scientific’s flagship offering in this space, as continuing to dominate and remain the preferred tool for ablation procedures. This strategic moat could allow BSX to capture even more market share as adoption grows.

Even more compelling, Boston Scientific raised its full-year 2025 guidance, signaling strong momentum in its core business. According to Seeking Alpha, “Guidance for full-year 2025 organic growth was raised to 12%–14%, up from the previous 10%–12%.” That’s a substantial increase and reflects robust performance across the cardiology portfolio, alongside effective global execution.

First-quarter earnings added fuel to the bullish thesis. EPS came in at 75 cents, beating expectations by 8 cents, while revenue of $4.66 billion, up nearly 21% year-over-year, topped estimates by $90 million. With both operational growth and market leadership in a high-demand medical category, BSX is on a promising trajectory—and Needham’s upgrade only reinforces that view.

    Company: Neurocrine Biosciences (SYM: NBIX)
    New Price Target: $138

Neurocrine Biosciences, a biopharmaceutical company focused on treating neurological, neuroendocrine, and neuropsychiatric disorders, was another beneficiary of Needham’s bullish sentiment. The firm upgraded NBIX to a “Buy” with a price target of $138, citing promising long-term growth drivers.

A key catalyst for the upgrade is Crenessity, the company’s treatment for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH)—a rare but serious endocrine disorder. Needham anticipates sales for Crenessity to surpass Wall Street consensus estimates by 8% to 10% starting in 2026 and continuing thereafter, reflecting high confidence in the drug’s market adoption and potential impact.

In a sign of broader analyst agreement, RBC Capital Markets also raised its rating on NBIX to “Outperform,” matching Needham’s $138 price target. RBC noted that the recent pullback in NBIX shares has created an attractive entry point for long-term investors, especially as the company’s drug pipeline matures and more treatments potentially receive regulatory approval.

Neurocrine's focus on under-addressed neurological conditions gives it a unique niche in biotech. The market seems to be underestimating the potential of its future revenue streams—and with dual upgrades and a promising product roadmap, NBIX is drawing more attention from institutional investors.

    Company: Robinhood (SYM: HOOD)
    Price Target Reaffirmed at $40

While not a new upgrade, Robinhood (SYM: HOOD) saw Needham reaffirm its Buy rating, with a maintained price target of $40. The fintech platform has been riding strong momentum, boosted by rising Bitcoin prices and a surge in cryptocurrency trading.

In its latest earnings report, Robinhood posted EPS of 37 cents, beating expectations by 4 cents, and reported $927 million in revenue, a 50% year-over-year increase that outpaced forecasts by nearly $10 million.

A deeper dive into the numbers reveals even more impressive trends:

    • Transaction-based revenues jumped 77% year-over-year to $583 million,

    • Cryptocurrency revenue doubled, reaching $252 million.

These numbers suggest not just strength in the core trading business, but also effective diversification into high-growth areas like crypto. And Robinhood isn’t just growing top-line revenue—it’s also focused on shareholder value. The company recently authorized an additional $500 million in share repurchases, following a $1 billion buyback plan announced in May 2024.

In a rising interest rate environment and with crypto assets gaining institutional acceptance, Robinhood is positioning itself as more than just a retail trading app. Needham’s continued confidence reinforces the view that HOOD has further room to run.
