It’s always a good idea to keep track of analyst upgrades and downgrades.
However, don’t use their opinion as the sole reason to buy or sell. Instead, do your own due diligence technically and fundamentally.
That’s because after a few hours, or a few days after the upgrade or downgrade, things may have shifted drastically. That’s the key reason to do your own research.
That being said, here are a few stocks that analysts just upgraded.
Netflix (SYM: NFLX)
At the moment, Netflix is a bit overbought at $1,195.86.
RSI, MACD and Williams’ %R are all deep in overbought territory, and to be honest NFLX appears ready for a near-term healthy pullback.
Bank of America just reiterated a buy rating on the stock with a price target of $1,490. The firm noted, “We continue to view Netflix as well positioned given the company’s unmatched scale in streaming, further runway for subscriber growth, significant opportunities in advertising and sports/live and continued earnings and [free cash flow] growth,” as quoted by CNBC.
Dell (SYM: DELL)
Dell is also overbought.
If the stock can break above double top resistance dating back to late February, it could retest $130 a share, near-term; Right now, we’d wait to see what Dell does at resistance before buying. If it fails at its current price of $113.95, it could pull back to $105.
Still, Bank of America reiterated a buy rating on the stock, noting that it’s well-positioned following earnings. “Reiterate Buy as we are still in the early stages of AI adoption, margins from mix, and tailwind from upcoming PC refresh and longer-term AI PC adoption.”
Caterpillar (SYM: CAT)
Caterpillar is also challenging heavy overhead resistance. So, we’d wait to see what it does here before buying. Should it fail at current resistance at $351.35, it could retest $330.
Still, Bank of America likes it, upgrading its price target to $385. “A disconnect has emerged between the two Machinery bellwethers: CAT & DE shares have been tightly correlated over a long period of time and both are likely to deliver $18-$19 of EPS in FY25, yet CAT is trading at a 25-30% valuation discount to DE. The discount does not typically get steeper based on prior cycles and we believe there is a path for CAT’s multiple to ‘catch up’ to Deere.”
Analyst upgrades can offer valuable insight—but real success often comes from spotting opportunities before Wall Street catches on. That’s where the biggest gains are made.
