Five Strong Buy Stocks to Watch for Wednesday, August 19

    Wednesday, August 19, 2026

Tuesday, August 18 brought high-conviction analyst calls across consumer discretionary, edtech, telecom, and specialty pharma. The Federal Reserve held the federal funds target range at 3.50%–3.75% on July 29, and the CME Group FedWatch tool implies roughly an 80% probability policymakers stand pat through 2026. With no rate relief in sight, sell-side desks are leaning on stock-specific catalysts and valuation resets. Five names drew fresh bullish calls.

Duolingo (DUOL) — A turnaround story that just got a fresh vote

Duolingo operates the world's most-downloaded language-learning app, with a growing suite in math and music. On August 18 D.A. Davidson analyst Wyatt Swanson upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral and raised his price target to $160 from $130. Swanson argued investors are underappreciating shifts in marketing and monetization, and expects DAU growth to keep accelerating with bookings converging toward it. The same session Citi raised its target to $140 from $101, and the company disclosed the acquisition of London-based animation studio Animade. The upgrade follows a Q2 print in which adjusted EPS of $0.66 on revenue of $298.45 million topped estimates of $0.58 and $295.44 million, with DAU up 23% year over year and full-year adjusted EBITDA margin guidance raised to 26.5% from 25%.

Shares traded at $140.40 on August 18, up 7.87%, with a market cap of roughly $6.54 billion and a trailing P/E of 16.8. The 52-week range is $87.89 to $368.39. Consensus is Hold, with 3 of 11 covering analysts bullish, an average target of $122.09, a median of $125, a high of $160, and a low of $80.

Risks: Shares are still 62% off the 52-week high, and revenue guidance has disappointed twice this year. Bank of America's Omar Dessouky downgraded Duolingo to Underperform on August 4 at $93, and Wells Fargo's Alec Brondolo remains Underweight at $80, both citing decelerating bookings and competitive pressure from generative AI tutoring tools. Any softness in Q3 revenue would reset expectations quickly.

Tapestry (TPR) — Coach parent gets another vote of confidence

Tapestry owns the Coach, Kate Spade, and Stuart Weitzman brands. On August 18 Daiwa upgraded the shares to Outperform from Neutral with a $140 price target, joining a bullish sell-side roster after strong fiscal Q4 results and an upbeat August 14 outlook. Coach brand heat, pricing power, and entry into the younger consumer segment have driven multiple quarters of positive comparable sales, alongside improving profitability at Kate Spade. Argus also updated its Buy rating on August 18 with a $148 target.

Shares traded at $133.99 on August 18, up 3.85%, with a market cap of roughly $27.1 billion and a trailing P/E of 18.4. The 52-week range is $93 to $164.80. Consensus is Strong Buy, with 8 of 9 covering analysts bullish, an average target of $182.44, a median of $175, a high of $232, and a low of $159.

Risks: The accessories category is sensitive to consumer discretionary spending, and any weakening of the U.S. or Chinese consumer would compress Coach traffic and margins. Bernstein's Aneesha Sherman remains at Market Perform with a $185 target, arguing some outperformance is priced in. Morgan Stanley's Alex Straton, while Overweight, trimmed her target to $159 on August 14, flagging FX headwinds and promotional activity.

Bath & Body Works (BBWI) — Depressed multiple meets a catalyst-rich print

Bath & Body Works is a specialty retailer of personal care and home fragrance products with more than 1,800 North American stores. On August 18 Citigroup analyst Paul Lejuez upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral with a $25 price target, citing a favorable risk/reward into the fiscal Q2 print on August 20. Lejuez models EPS of $0.26, above the $0.24 consensus and the $0.20–$0.25 guidance range. Citi also flagged upside from lower energy prices, tariff refunds, and a depressed 5.1x forecast 2026 EBITDA multiple.

Shares traded at $20.19 on August 18, up 7.33%, with a market cap of roughly $4.07 billion and a trailing P/E of 5.8. The 52-week range is $14.28 to $32.32. Consensus is Hold, with 3 of 9 covering analysts bullish, an average target of $22.89, a median of $23, a high of $26, and a low of $19.

Risks: The core business remains under sales pressure from soft home fragrance demand and shifting personal care preferences. Goldman Sachs' Kate McShane downgraded Bath & Body Works to Sell on July 8 at $19, and a soft Q2 print on August 20 would reverse the Citi thesis quickly. Tariff risk on imported product remains a wild card.

América Móvil (AMX) — Emerging-markets telecom gets a Mexico boost

América Móvil is Latin America's largest wireless carrier, with more than 300 million subscribers across Mexico and 24 other countries. On August 18 JPMorgan analyst Marcelo Santos upgraded the stock to Overweight from Neutral and raised his price target to $32 from $30. Santos called operating trends "very solid," citing stronger cash flow from lower capex and a reduced regulatory overhang in Mexico. JPMorgan expects operational free cash flow to grow around 3.5% annually between 2026 and 2029.

Shares traded at $23.68 on August 18, flat on the session, with a market cap of roughly $71.1 billion and a trailing P/E of 13.6. The 52-week range is $18.99 to $28.46. Consensus is Buy, with 3 of 5 covering analysts bullish, an average target of $25.90, a median of $23.20, a high of $32, and a low of $20.80.

Risks: América Móvil remains exposed to Mexican peso and Latin American currency volatility, and any deterioration in Mexico's macro backdrop could pressure ARPU. Scotiabank's Andres Coello remains at Sector Perform with a $20.80 target, and Citigroup downgraded shares to Neutral in September 2025. The dividend and buyback profile is attractive but sensitive to FX.

Corcept Therapeutics (CORT) — Specialty pharma with expanding label opportunities

Corcept Therapeutics is a specialty pharma focused on cortisol modulators, with lead franchise Korlym approved for Cushing's syndrome. On August 18 Truist Securities analyst Joon Lee resumed coverage with a Buy rating and a $164 price target, citing the Cushing's syndrome commercial opportunity and pipeline optionality behind next-generation modulator relacorilant. The target represents roughly 40% upside from the pre-upgrade $117 price, though shares have surged 194% over the past six months.

Shares traded at $118.41 on August 18, up 1.06%, with a market cap of roughly $12.8 billion and a trailing P/E of 282. The 52-week range is $28.66 to $122.21, meaning the stock is essentially at its 52-week high. Consensus is Strong Buy, with 4 of 4 covering analysts bullish, an average target of $140.75, a median of $163, a high of $165, and a low of $72.

Risks: Corcept trades at an elevated multiple after its 194% six-month rally, and any regulatory setback for relacorilant or a Cushing's franchise sales miss would compress the multiple sharply. The UBS $72 low target reflects a more cautious view on relacorilant's competitive positioning and reimbursement dynamics. The stock also carries typical single-drug concentration and biotech volatility risk.
