With $4,000 Gold Possible, Here are Three ETFs to Consider
Gold just smashed through another record high, surging past $3,500 an ounce.
At last check, the metal was trading at $3,525.86 — and momentum suggests it could make a run at $4,000 sooner than many expect. For investors looking for safety and growth during uncertain times, this is a trend worth paying attention to.
Why Gold is Running HotThere are several key drivers behind the latest gold rally: 1. Tariff uncertainty. Recently, a U.S. appeals court ruled that President Trump’s global tariffs are illegal. While current tariffs remain in place until October 14, the possibility of change is fueling economic uncertainty, and investors are rushing into gold as a hedge. 2. Federal Reserve policy. Speculation of an interest rate cut at the Fed’s September meeting is giving gold another tailwind. Lower rates tend to weaken the dollar and make gold more attractive as an alternative asset. 3. Massive ETF inflows. In Q2 2025, gold ETFs saw inflows of 170 tonnes. Combined with Q1, that marks the strongest first-half inflows since the pandemic-driven rush of 2020. Institutional money is clearly moving back into the yellow metal. 4. Geopolitical tensions and central bank demand. Around the world, central banks are stockpiling gold as a safeguard against currency risks and global instability. At the same time, persistent geopolitical uncertainty — from trade disputes to global conflict risks — is keeping demand strong. 5. Wall Street forecasts. Analysts at Fidelity see gold reaching $4,000 by the end of next year. Goldman Sachs and Bank of America also project gold at $4,000 by 2026. With multiple major banks aligned, investors are paying attention. The combination of weaker U.S. dollar expectations, central bank demand, and potential Fed action creates an almost perfect storm for higher gold prices. |

Why ETFs Are the Smarter PlayInvestors often debate whether to buy physical gold, gold mining stocks, or ETFs. While physical gold provides a safe store of value, ETFs offer diversification and easier liquidity at lower cost. With ETFs, you can hold a basket of gold miners or explorers without having to pick individual winners. Here are three top-performing gold ETFs that could continue to benefit from the ongoing rally. ETF: VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF (SYM: GDX) The VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF (SYM: GDX) is one of the best-known ways to gain broad exposure to gold mining companies.
One major advantage of investing in miners through GDX is leverage to gold prices. While gold itself may rise 10%, miner profits can jump much higher because their costs remain fixed while revenues rise with gold. This often leads to outsized gains in mining stocks compared to the underlying metal. With gold prices climbing, companies like Barrick and Newmont are positioned to expand margins and free cash flow — a major tailwind for GDX holders. |

ETF: Sprott Junior Gold Miners ETF (SYM: SGDJ) For investors looking for higher-risk, higher-reward opportunities, the Sprott Junior Gold Miners ETF (SYM: SGDJ) targets smaller-cap mining firms.
Junior miners are typically more volatile but also more leveraged to gold’s price. When gold is climbing, these companies can see explosive gains because a small rise in the price of gold can transform marginal projects into highly profitable ventures. Given that SGDJ tracks the Solactive Junior Gold Miners Custom Factors Index, it spreads risk across a wide variety of up-and-coming miners. If gold does break through $4,000, the juniors may be among the biggest beneficiaries. ETF: Global X Gold Explorers ETF (SYM: GOEX) If you want to invest in companies still in the exploration stage — those discovering the next generation of gold deposits — the Global X Gold Explorers ETF (SYM: GOEX) is an interesting option.
Exploration companies are high-risk, but they offer high-reward potential. A single major discovery can send a stock soaring overnight. GOEX gives you exposure to a diversified group of these explorers, spreading risk while keeping upside potential intact. Since the start of the year, GOEX rallied from about $29.94 to a high of $57.44. With gold still pushing higher, the ETF could test $65 near term. Found this helpful? Share it with others.
