Dear Reader,
This is Dylan Jovine with Behind the Markets.
Happy Thursday.
Today is Thursday, January 15th.
There’s a lot happening right now in what’s now being called the Gulf of America that many people aren’t paying attention to — but I find it extremely interesting.
And more importantly, there are real profit opportunities starting to pop up there.
Since the Gulf of Mexico was renamed the Gulf of America, a number of developments have accelerated, and today I want to walk through what’s happening — and why it matters for us this year.
But first, a quick reminder: tomorrow, Friday at 1:00 p.m., we’re hosting our webinar.
I’m genuinely excited about this one.
As I mentioned yesterday, we went back through our portfolios — all of them — and asked a very simple question:
What do our biggest winners actually have in common?
Not the obvious stuff.
Not the surface-level explanations.
What’s the “hidden mechanism” that shows up again and again in our best-performing stocks?
And just as important — how do we not only identify those opportunities early, but also hold them longer instead of selling too soon?
We spent months on this. We ran the data. We tested it. We even brought AI into the process — and I’ll admit, I was the skeptic.
But what we found was real. And frankly, it was eye-opening.
We’re going to reveal that mechanism tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. and show you exactly how it works.
Now, let’s talk about the Gulf of America.
We’ve been banging the drum on this for a couple of months now, and here’s why.
About twenty years ago, a little-known government group — the kind of bureaucratic operation nobody pays attention to — was quietly mapping U.S. maritime borders. Just pencil-pushers, sitting in a strip mall office in Colorado, going to work and going home.
What they concluded was significant: America’s offshore borders could legally extend farther than most people realized.
Fast-forward to today.
One of President Trump’s early executive orders was to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
A lot of people were offended by that. I understand the reaction.
But if you look at that decision in isolation, it seems strange. Same with Greenland. Same with Argentina. Same with Iran. Same with Musk’s satellites.
Taken individually, people ask: What is this guy doing?
But when you look at it in the context of China, a pattern emerges.
Renaming the Gulf wasn’t symbolic. It was strategic.
It opens the door to accessing massive offshore resources — not just oil and gas, but rare earth materials critical to modern technology and national security.
These resources sit on the seafloor, often in nodules that look like small potatoes — but inside them are materials with enormous economic and strategic value.
And the momentum is already building.
Just last month — December 16th — Shell greenlit a major final investment decision in the Gulf of America.
That was about thirty days ago.
Then, coming up on March 11th, the next major catalyst hits.
That’s when the Gulf Lease Sale window officially opens.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has proposed what it’s calling the “Gulf 2” oil and gas lease sale — mandated by law after Trump pushed these changes through.
You can see this all in the Federal Register if you know where to look. These things start bubbling up quietly long before they become headline news.
March 11th is when the race really begins.
Companies are already lining up — positioning themselves, choosing lanes, getting ready to move.
When the gun goes off, it’s on.
And the truth is, the race has already started.
That’s why we’ve been doing deep research into which companies are best positioned — who’s in first place, second place, and third place to capitalize on this opportunity.
Not many people are talking about the Gulf of America yet. I think a lot of folks were so focused on the name change — or offended by it — that they missed the economic opportunity underneath it.
But there is an opportunity here.
So that’s what I wanted to share with you today.
The Gulf of America lease window opens March 11th.
It’s a race.
A lot of companies are lining up.
That’s all I have for today.
Have a wonderful day.
I’ll see you tomorrow.
