Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, gambling stocks, like DraftKings (SYM: DKNG) are exploding, we said on August 8. Just as it did in 2024.
A year ago, Americans wagered $27.6 billion on NFL games – which would help explain why DKNG ran from $31.26 to a high of $45.72.
At the time, as noted by CBS Sports, “The NFL remains king, and more money is wagered on the NFL than any other league. The NFL also attracts six-figure wages (and sometimes seven-figure wagers) on a regular basis throughout the season.”
This year, according to the American Gaming Association, Americans are expected to wager about $30 billion – an 8% jump year over year. This would also explain why DKNG recently ran from an August 2025 low of about $42.38 to $48.78.
Now back to $46.56, it’s still a strong opportunity.
Better still, DKNG isn’t the only hot gambling stock to consider.
There’s also Flutter Entertainment (SYM: FLUT).
Flutter Entertainment, a $54.05 billion sports betting and gambling company, also has a history of running higher ahead of NFL seasons.
Last year, for example, FLUT ran from an August low of about $180.25 to a December high of $278.59. Most recently, it ran from an April low of about $200 to $306.95 and we still expect for it to rally higher over the next few NFL-fueled months.
Most recently, it ran from an August low of $280 to $310. Now back to $295.28, it’s also a strong opportunity.
We can also look at ETFs like the Roundhill Sports Betting & Gambling ETF (SYM: BETZ).
From an August 2024 low of about $15.56, the BETZ ETF ran to a December 2024 high of $20.28. Even now, after running from a 2025 low of $16.73 to $24.35, we do expect for the ETF to rally higher, as millions of Americans place their bets.
Most recently, BETZ ran from an August 2025 low of about $23.50 to $25.50. It’s now back to $25 a share and is an opportunity.
With an expense ratio of 0.75%, the BETZ ETF offers exposure to online market leaders, such as DraftKings, Flutter Entertainment, Entain PLC, Genius Sports, and Rush Street Interactive, to name a few of its 31 holdings.
