3 Yield Plays Built to Hold Through the Volatility

Volatility gets easier to sit through when something in the portfolio is paying you.

That is the real appeal of yield. It is not just the income. It is the patience that income can buy.

That matters right now. A monthly dividend, a near-10% cash yield, or an option-income ETF will not make the market calm down. But they can make a portfolio feel sturdier while the market does what it does.

These three names do that job in different ways.

    The Monthly Payer

    Company: Realty Income (SYM: O)
Monthly dividend REIT built to throw off steady cash flow from a huge, diversified real estate platform.

Realty Income is still one of the cleanest income stories in the market. On March 11, the company raised its monthly dividend to $0.2705 per share from $0.2700. That payout is due on April 15, 2026, to shareholders of record on March 31, and it lifts the annualized dividend to $3.246 per share. With the stock trading around $65.20 on March 16, that works out to an indicated yield of about 5.0%. On that math, a $5,000 position would generate roughly $249 a year before taxes if the payout held steady.

The machine behind that dividend is the reason the stock works. Realty Income’s latest investor presentation shows 15,511 properties, 98.9% occupancy, 1,761 clients, and exposure to 92 industries as of December 31, 2025. It also says the company has increased its dividend for 31-plus consecutive years and had declared 668 monthly dividends and 113 consecutive quarterly dividend increases as of its February 2026 declaration.

That is why Realty Income still earns its place in an income portfolio. This is not one trophy property and one miracle tenant holding the whole thing together. It is a scaled rent-collection machine with diversification doing a lot of the heavy lifting. One bad tenant is a leak, not a flood. The risk is that REITs are still rate-sensitive. If long-term yields keep climbing, the stock can stall even if the operating business keeps doing its job.

    The Near-10% Yield

    Company: Western Union (SYM: WU)
Cash-rich money-transfer stock with a big yield and a digital-transition story still taking shape.

Western Union is the highest-yield name in the group, and that is what gets attention first. The company’s investor-relations dividend history shows Western Union has held its quarterly dividend at $0.235 since 2021. Its latest quarterly dividend, approved in February, is payable on March 31, 2026, to shareholders of record on March 17. With the stock trading around $9.45 on March 16, that annualized payout works out to an indicated yield of about 9.95%. A $5,000 position would generate roughly $497 a year before taxes at that rate.

The reason the stock is still interesting is that Western Union is not just sitting there clipping coupons. In its fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 results, the company said Branded Digital revenue grew 7% in the fourth quarter, while Branded Digital transaction growth came in at 13%. Western Union also said Consumer Services revenue grew 15% in the quarter, and it guided for 2026 revenue growth of 5% to 8% and adjusted EPS of $1.75 to $1.85, assuming the Intermex deal closes in the second quarter.

That is the case for owning it here. Western Union does not need to become a high-growth fintech darling to work. At this price, it mostly needs to protect the payout, keep the digital mix moving in the right direction, and avoid a deeper operational stumble. The risk is obvious: the dividend has not grown in years, retail money transfer trends are still uneven, and a nearly 10% yield usually means the market still has doubts. That is why this is the income play with the most skepticism baked in.

    The Options-Income Cushion

ETF: JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF (SYM: JEPI)
Options-income ETF designed to deliver monthly cash flow while capturing a significant portion of the S&P 500 with less volatility.

JEPI is the smoother version of the trade. J.P. Morgan’s February 28 fact sheet says the fund carries a 0.35% expense ratio, had about $44.96 billion in investments, and offered a 30-day SEC yield of 7.56%. The same fact sheet says JEPI is built to provide current income while maintaining prospects for capital appreciation. With the ETF trading around $57.64 on March 16, a $5,000 position translates to about $378 a year based on that SEC yield, though actual distributions can vary from month to month.

The structure is what makes it different. JEPI generates income by combining option selling with a portfolio of U.S. large-cap stocks, and J.P. Morgan says the fund seeks to deliver a significant portion of the returns associated with the S&P 500 Index with less volatility, in addition to monthly income. Recent top holdings included Johnson & Johnson, Howmet Aerospace, Analog Devices, Ross Stores, AbbVie, NextEra Energy, RTX, PepsiCo, Walmart, and Nvidia.

That makes JEPI useful for a very specific job. It is not the highest-upside vehicle in a roaring bull market. In fact, covered-call strategies can lag when stocks rip higher because part of the upside gets sold away for income. But when the market is choppy, that trade-off can feel a lot more attractive. JEPI is the name here for investors who want yield, equity exposure, and a little less whiplash than owning the broad market outright.

    Bottom line:

O is the monthly cash-flow machine.
WU is the high-yield contrarian bet.
    JEPI is the options-income cushion.

    Different tools. Same job.

Get paid while the market keeps acting up.

Featured Article: April 1: Elon Creates Brand-New $7 Trillion Market?

Elon Musk just held an all-hands meeting at his closely guarded AI lab.

    He told employees...

We're moving faster than any other company. No one's even close.

    Why?

Because in 19 days... Elon built an AI breakthrough that would take most tech CEOs four years to set up.

He brought it online this year...

Elon's going to crank it to full blast. And potentially make ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek obsolete...

    While unleashing a brand-new 7,000% growth market.

Mark my words... this is bigger than a new chatbot. It's the culmination of everything you've been reading about AI for the last 60 years.

It could be – as mathematical genius I.J. Good put it in 1965 – the last invention that man need ever make.

    But here's the twist.

Neither Tesla nor SpaceX is the best way to play this opportunity.

Instead, you'll want to own the firm that controls over 38,000 patents on the technology (not semiconductors) that will power Elon's career-defining vision.
