Germany and Europe are rearming too, and it’s setting the stage for a global defense boom. We talked about this last month during our Iron Dome webinar, and now you’re seeing those same defense stocks starting to climb. Companies like AeroVironment just secured a $50 million drone contract from Italy, and European nations are rapidly filling gaps in their defense systems by buying from American manufacturers. Dylan Jovine | Trump’s $1 Trillion Defense Budget Creates Massive Investment Boom

Happy Friday—and happy Bring Your Child to Work Day! Teddy is here with me today, and it’s one of my favorite traditions. He gets to see what I do, meet the team, and, of course, raid the donut stash. But between the sugar rush and showing him the ropes, I wanted to touch on something important: the market's recent volatility. Right now, April is shaping up to be one of the most volatile months in decades. We’re seeing intraday swings not seen since COVID—and before that, only in 2008 and 1987. That kind of historic volatility isn't random. We’ve got earnings reports that look good on paper, but CEOs are warning about tariff impacts and rising input costs. It’s created a strange split-screen effect: strong fundamentals on one side, but geopolitical and inflation fears on the other. Then there’s China. One minute the Trump administration is imposing tariffs, the next they’re walking it back. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent even called it a “trade embargo” during a JP Morgan conference, which is serious language. It reminds me of the embargoes that led to World War I, World War II—and yes, even Pearl Harbor. When trade stops, tempers flare. So where does that leave us? In the middle of a market being driven more by politics and external shocks than pure economic data. That’s why anyone who tells you they know exactly where the market is going is, frankly, full of it.
